TL;DR
Engineering Prototype Technician | Motors R&D (Electric Motors): Building, assembling, testing, and validating electric motors and propulsion systems for electric aircraft with an accent on electro-mechanical assembly, technical documentation, and in-process quality inspection. Focus on troubleshooting component and process issues, supporting flight testing, and working safely with high-voltage systems.

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States; onsite role

Salary: $26–$35 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Assemble and repair electric motors, interpret engineering drawings, redline documentation, and create build records.
  • Support motor testing by measuring components, assembling test equipment, and installing or removing motors.
  • Assist with flight testing, validation, troubleshooting, and manufacturing processes alongside design engineers.
  • Edit and implement technical documentation while maintaining build logs and check sheets.
  • Perform in-process quality inspections, identify process deviations, and support troubleshooting.
  • Develop expertise in electro-mechanical assembly of fully electric propulsion systems and follow high-voltage safety practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Competence with hand and power tools, plus strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Experience working collaboratively with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing goals and rapidly develop solutions.
  • Fabrication, welding, and/or machining experience.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience building electric motors.
  • CAD experience, specifically 3DX/Catia.
  • Technical knowledge of electrical systems from 24 VDC to 800 VDC.
  • Two-year degree or certificate from an accredited college, university, or technical school.
