Senior Prototype Engineer, Welding

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, with daily on-site work required. Occasional deployment or field assignments of up to two weeks, one to two times per year, may be required. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Relocation assistance to Portland is available if needed.

Salary: $100,000–$175,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and manufacture prototype and production hardware using welding, machining, CAD, and additive processes.
• Fabricate and weld structural assemblies from engineering drawings.
• Develop and document production processes, work instructions, and shop capabilities.
• Provide DFM feedback to design engineers and build fixturing for repeatable fabrication and assembly.
• Maintain shop organization, tooling systems, equipment readiness, and safety standards.
• Order supplies and equipment and support facilities, logistics, and operations teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional welding and fabrication experience.
• Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Experience with bending, sheet metal fabrication, FCAW welding, and a broad range of manufacturing processes and materials.
• Professional CAD experience, preferably with NX, and the ability to interpret weldment drawings and engineering documentation.
• Experience with non-destructive evaluation methods, preferably ultrasonic testing.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift 50 pounds or more occasionally, and work at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate safety equipment.

Nice to have

• Experience building hardware for marine, aerospace, or heavy industrial environments.
• Experience developing shop layouts or scaling fabrication capabilities in a growing organization.
