Lead, Engineering Fleet Operations (Automotive)

Location: Onsite in Charlotte, North Carolina, or Novi, Michigan, with 4–5 days per week in the office and regular travel for company events.

Salary: $160,000–$192,500 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own daily engineering fleet operations across locations, maintaining visibility into vehicle status, configuration, readiness, and compliance.
• Lead intake, release, check-in, check-out, and internal handover processes for prototype, pre-series, benchmark, competitor, and external vehicles.
• Manage benchmark vehicle acquisition, registration, storage, maintenance, utilization, tracking, and documentation.
• Plan domestic and international vehicle transportation across road, ocean, and air freight, including time-critical shipments.
• Own import/export processes and customs documentation, including carnets, temporary imports, and exemptions.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Validation and Verification, Prototype Builds, Logistics, Procurement, customs brokers, legal, compliance teams, proving grounds, and test agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Logistics, or Operations.
• 12+ years of experience in fleet operations, automotive logistics, or prototype vehicle management.
• Strong experience with vehicle logistics, shipping, and customs processes.
• Hands-on experience handling vehicles in an engineering or test environment.
• Strong coordination, stakeholder management, documentation, compliance, and operational problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite 4–5 days per week in Charlotte, NC, or Novi, Michigan, and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with prototype or pre-series vehicle environments.
• Familiarity with EU, US, or global automotive import/export regulations.
• Experience managing benchmark or competitor vehicle fleets.
• Knowledge of automotive compliance and homologation basics.
