Engineer, Whole Vehicle Test Requirements and Validation – Propulsion (Automotive)

Location: Novi, Michigan, United States; onsite 4–5 days per week. Regular in-person meetings, company events, and occasional travel are required.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own whole-vehicle validation for propulsion-driven attributes, including drivability, performance, efficiency, charging, thermal performance, towing, payload, and off-road capability.
• Define validation strategies, routes, duty cycles, environmental conditions, and customer-use scenarios for boundary and worst-case operating conditions.
• Develop and manage vehicle-level test cases, procedures, instrumentation plans, and validation campaigns across proving grounds, public roads, and hot/cold climate locations.
• Coordinate vehicle preparation, data acquisition, CAN/GPS and thermal instrumentation, environmental conditioning, and test execution.
• Collaborate with Propulsion, Chassis, Thermal, Controls, Software, Electrical, Vehicle Integration, and Manufacturing teams to investigate root causes and resolve performance gaps.
• Document results, benchmark competitive vehicles, maintain requirements traceability, and provide recommendations for vehicle readiness and release decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Human Factors, HCI, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 4 years of experience in whole-vehicle validation, full-performance testing, and vehicle-level verification testing.
• Hands-on experience with CANoe, INCA, and validation instrumentation for capturing, logging, and parsing vehicle network and sensor data.
• Experience defining whole-vehicle test plans and DVPs, executing physical vehicle tests, and tracking build and software changes across vehicle fleets.
• Working knowledge of ALM and product-tracking tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, MagicDraw, or Codebeamer.
• Understanding of whole-vehicle development phases, automotive safety standards, industry regulations, and cross-functional vehicle target alignment.
