TL;DR
Hardware Test and Validation Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles): Developing reliability and validation plans for autonomous vehicle hardware components and subsystems with an accent on mechanical and environmental testing, data acquisition, and vehicle communication protocols. Focus on designing test profiles, leading test campaigns, interpreting DAQ data, and validating hardware for Level 4 autonomous trucks.

Location: Onsite 5 days a week in Santa Clara, California, United States

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do

  • Create reliability test and validation plans for autonomous vehicle hardware components and subsystems.
  • Lead DFMEA activities and organize test campaigns across hardware and vehicle groups.
  • Design test profiles using field measurements and requirements, and set up, operate, and maintain test equipment.
  • Instrument components, collect and process data using data acquisition systems and vehicle communication protocols.
  • Perform internal testing and manage outsourced testing with external vendors.
  • Interpret test results, prepare reports, and provide feedback to cross-functional development teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hardware engineering testing and validation experience, including designing and managing validation plans.
  • Hands-on experience in automotive, trucking, aerospace, robotics, or automation.
  • Experience defining mechanical and environmental tests for vehicle- or robot-integrated components.
  • Experience with CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, DAQ systems, accelerometers, strain gauges, and thermocouples.
  • Experience with HALT testing, CAD tools, and processing test data.

Nice to have

  • Experience with camera, ultrasound, lidar, or radar sensor technologies.
  • Experience automating workflows or data analysis with macros.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB or Python.
