System Embedded Software Engineer — Security

Salary: $147,050–$230,850 USD annually, plus potential bonus and/or equity for United States candidates.

What you will do

• Design and develop secure embedded software, firmware, and driver components for commercial PC platforms.
• Define security requirements for firmware features, system interfaces, device identity, onboarding, and update mechanisms.
• Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and secure design reviews across embedded architectures.
• Implement and validate secure boot, measured boot, cryptographic protocols, key management, access control, and firmware update protection.
• Investigate and remediate vulnerabilities found through testing, penetration testing, fuzzing, static analysis, or external reporting.
• Collaborate with hardware, BIOS, operating system, firmware, cybersecurity, and product teams while mentoring engineers and maintaining security documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in embedded software, firmware, driver development, or product security, including delivery of secure firmware or embedded systems.
• Experience with bare-metal, RTOS, bootloader, low-level firmware, embedded security architecture, secure provisioning, and cryptographic implementations.
• Proficiency in C; familiarity with Python, scripting, build automation, GitHub, code review, and secure release workflows.
• Experience with secure boot, firmware signing and verification, rollback protection, update recovery, debugging with JTAG/SWD, and vulnerability analysis.
• Knowledge of Arm processors, hardware and peripheral interfaces, protocol security, memory protection, concurrency risks, and embedded security testing tools.
