TL;DR
Staff Mechanical Engineer - Strategic Projects (Robotics): Designing and commercializing complex structural systems for mobile robots with an accent on mechanical design, electromechanical integration, analysis, and manufacturability. Focus on performing FEA and tolerance analysis, creating GD&T drawings and PLM documentation, and building, testing, and iterating robotic systems.

Location: Onsite at the Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA HQ; travel of up to 20% may be required.

Salary: $125,000–$171,600 base annually, plus medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), PTO, and other benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of complex structural systems for mobile robots.
  • Perform FEA and tolerance analysis to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Integrate mechanical designs with electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, and quality engineering systems.
  • Prototype, build, test, troubleshoot, and iterate on robotic designs.
  • Create dimensional drawings using ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T, and manage BOMs and ECOs in PLM.
  • Communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong mechanical design experience with hands-on electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, and FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys.
  • Experience selecting and integrating motors, sensors, and actuators.
  • Knowledge of machining, casting, sheet metal, and plastics manufacturing processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience in industrial robotics, automation, or material handling.
  • Knowledge of PLM systems.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
