Staff Mechanical Engineer - Mobile Fleet (Robotics)

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA — HQ; onsite. Travel to manufacturing, partner, client, and customer sites may be required up to 25%.

Salary: $125,000–$171,600 base annually, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), and PTO.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical development of an assigned mobile four-wheeled robot product line from concept and release through production ramp, sustaining, and end-of-life.
• Design structural frames, drive systems, electromechanical packaging, and supporting hardware components.
• Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles for high-volume contract manufacturing and cost-efficient production.
• Partner with contract manufacturers on production builds, defect troubleshooting, quality escapes, ECNs, and RCCA.
• Design production jigs, fixtures, and tooling; support PPAP, FAI, design reviews, and PLM/PDM documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• At least 8 years of mechanical engineering experience, including 2 or more years in robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools and experience with PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience with contract manufacturers, DFM reviews, ECNs, production issue resolution, and manufacturing support equipment.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, sheet metal, machining, injection molding, and die casting.
• Ability to work onsite in Wilmington, Massachusetts, travel up to 25%, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with mobile robots, AGVs, AMRs, or warehouse automation systems.
• Familiarity with PPAP, FMEA, and quality systems in high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience with structural or thermal FEA using ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
• Experience in sustaining engineering, field troubleshooting, mentoring, or technical leadership.
