TL;DR
Process Engineer (Robotics) (surface finishing and material removal): Developing and optimizing robotic manufacturing processes for sanding, polishing, spray coating, and coating removal with an accent on material science, structured experimentation, and customer-ready automation. Focus on designing DoE experiments, building predictive process models, analyzing manufacturing data, and integrating improvements into live robotic deployments.

Location: Los Angeles, United States; on-site. Travel to customer sites may be required up to 50% of the time. Applicants must meet U.S. export control requirements and maintain U.S. work authorization throughout employment.

Salary: $80,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

  • Develop and optimize robotic manufacturing processes for sanding, polishing, spray coating, and coating removal.
  • Design and execute structured Design of Experiments studies to characterize material-removal physics and process parameters.
  • Build predictive process models and translate experimental findings into deployable customer automation.
  • Collaborate with customers to define process specifications and support live deployments.
  • Support end-of-arm tooling design and integration with robotics, systems, and application engineering teams.
  • Analyze manufacturing data and use Python, statistical software, and AI tools to improve process characterization and prediction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Material Science, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of industry experience in manufacturing process development, process engineering, or a related role.
  • Practical experience using Design of Experiments or Design for Six Sigma methodology.
  • Proficiency in material science principles and their application to manufacturing processes.
  • Research experience in an academic or industry setting, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must meet U.S. export control requirements and maintain ongoing U.S. work authorization.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of process engineering experience in manufacturing, robotics, or automation.
  • Experience with robotic systems, end-of-arm tooling, surface finishing, or material removal.
  • Python or C++, CAD software, FANUC programming, or comparable industrial robot experience.
  • Experience combining R&D with commercial production and using AI or machine learning for process optimization.
