Backend Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate APIs, backend services, and data pipelines powering the Curie AI platform.
• Build integrations between AI models, scientific tools, and internal engineering workflows.
• Own backend features from system design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Improve observability, reliability, performance, and maintainability through instrumentation and optimization.
• Collaborate with ML researchers, product engineers, materials scientists, and hardware engineers.
• Contribute to architecture, technical direction, documentation, code review, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Backend engineering experience with strong programming skills.
• Production experience designing, building, and operating APIs, data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or similar systems.
• Strong fundamentals in at least one backend language, such as Python, Go, Rust, Java, or Kotlin.
• Experience with relational or graph databases, message queues, caching layers, and cloud infrastructure.
• Ability to reason about system design, data modelling, engineering trade-offs, and complex distributed-system debugging.
• Interest in building software for scientific and industrial applications.

Nice to have

• Experience working in an AI/ML environment.
• Familiarity with graph databases, knowledge graphs, or scientific data platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, Docker, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines.
