Senior Backend Software Engineer - Application Development

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, development, and maintenance of high-performance, scalable backend services for operational data and AI systems.
• Design robust APIs for frontend developers and external systems, integrating server-side logic with user-facing features.
• Design efficient data structures and algorithms for large-scale, high-throughput data.
• Optimize applications for speed and scalability through performance analysis.
• Improve user workflows by collaborating with technical and non-technical teams across product boundaries.
• Contribute to code quality through guidelines, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience designing, developing, leading, and maintaining live backend systems.
• In-depth knowledge of data structures, system architecture, microservices API development, distributed systems, and backend best practices.
• Strong coding skills in Java, C++, Python, Rust, or similar languages.
• Background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or a similar field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to iterate quickly and maintain a high quality bar.
• Active UK Security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain it, is beneficial but not required.
