Backend Software Engineer - Application Development

What you will do

• Architect, develop, maintain, and support high-performance backend services for operational data and AI systems.
• Design robust APIs, microservice features, data structures, and algorithms for large-scale, high-throughput workloads.
• Improve application speed, scalability, reliability, and live-system performance through analysis and optimization.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and cross-functional technical and non-technical teams to build cohesive user workflows.
• Contribute to coding standards, code reviews, technical guidelines, and continuous knowledge sharing.
• Potentially participate in Frontline assignments involving customer collaboration, workshops, architecture, and custom web applications.

Requirements

• Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting live backend systems.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, system architecture, API development, microservices, distributed systems, and backend best practices.
• Strong programming skills in Java, C++, Python, Rust, or similar languages.
• Experience building high-quality software in a fast-paced CI/CD environment.
• Degree or equivalent engineering background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to iterate quickly with teammates.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, Rust, Python, Go, Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Spark, Docker, Kubernetes, Gradle, or GitHub.
• Active UK Security Clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain it.
