Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in the UK, with supported remote working and offices in Cheltenham and Manchester

Salary: £94,000–£120,000 GBP per year, plus equity awards

What you will do

• Build backend processing systems powering the core SaaS security product.
• Maintain and evolve existing systems for performance, resilience, and scalability.
• Design and implement APIs, backend services, and multithreaded applications.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver high-impact features.
• Apply software engineering practices to requirements gathering, system design, and code reviews.
• Build AI-ready systems and use AI-powered development tools to improve engineering efficiency.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or SQL.
• Experience building backend services, APIs, and multithreaded applications.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, relational databases such as Postgres, and Git.
• Experience with AWS or GCP, S3, Kafka, Redis, or similar cloud and event systems.
• Understanding of AI/ML concepts including LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, inference, evaluation, and AI/ML API integration.

Nice to have

• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, or similar observability tools.
• Understanding of quality engineering practices across development and testing lifecycles.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and performance optimization.
