Senior Design Engineer

Location: San Francisco, California, United States. Applicants must already have authorization to work in the US. Domestic and international travel of up to 25% is required.

Salary: $165,000–$227,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Design, analyze, document, prototype, test, and validate mechanical components and assemblies.
• Balance industrial design requirements with mechanical constraints across new products and major product improvements.
• Develop and execute complex design-of-experiments across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software disciplines.
• Conduct feasibility studies focused on mechanical robustness, schedule, and cost.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for build issues and reliability testing.
• Coordinate with contract manufacturers and prototyping partners, facilitate design reviews, and support manufacturing builds.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in product design, new product release, test engineering, or manufacturing support.
• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with 3D MCAD and preferably SolidWorks or Onshape.
• Experience designing consumer products using cosmetic plastic molding, sheet metal, CNC, extrusion, and other manufacturing processes.
• Experience integrating electromechanical components such as flex circuits, batteries, and antennas.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis, design of experiments, FEA, CFD, thermal design, DFMEA, and DFA.

Nice to have

• Hands-on prototyping and maker experience in a laboratory environment.
• Functional Python proficiency for data acquisition and sensor-log analysis.
• Experience using AI tools effectively.
• Ability to modify existing firmware branches for early-stage prototypes.
• Background or active interest in food science, food engineering, phase changes, fluid dynamics, or food-contact consumer product architecture.
