Field Quality Engineer, Energy Storage

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; frequent travel to field locations of up to 40% required.

Salary: $150,000–$207,500 USD per year; full-time position.

What you will do

• Own field quality issues across operating Battery Energy Storage System assets.
• Lead investigations into recurring failures, abnormal trends, and field incidents with O&M and Service Engineering.
• Perform root cause analyses using 5 Whys, Fishbone, and fault tree analysis.
• Develop data-supported problem statements from field evidence and technical observations.
• Define, track, and verify corrective and preventive actions through inspections, audits, and data analysis.
• Track quality KPIs and drive improvements that reduce repeat failures and operational burden.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in field quality, reliability engineering, service engineering, or commissioning support for complex electromechanical or energy systems.
• Experience with field-deployed assets such as BESS, power electronics, renewable energy systems, or industrial electrical equipment.
• Experience working with field operations, O&M technicians, and service engineering teams in production or operational environments.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis and CAPA processes, plus familiarity with field inspections, commissioning documentation, and service records.
• Valid driver’s license, ability to travel frequently, and availability for weekends, nights, or on-call work.
