Senior Machine Safety and Compliance Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid work structure

Salary: $135,000–$165,000 per year, plus stock and benefits

hirify.global is a rapidly growing startup developing custom automation robotics systems for picking and packing online grocery and consumable orders, with a focus on reducing food-supply-chain waste and emissions.

What you will do

• Lead compliance with ANSI, ISO, OSHA, NSF, UL, and other applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines throughout the product lifecycle.
• Work with NRTL and external certification agencies to define standards, specify testing, and resolve standards interpretation questions.
• Develop functional safety architectures for new automation systems and upgrades.
• Perform and support risk assessments, inspect machinery and facilities, and identify and correct potential hazards.
• Collaborate with customers and internal operations teams to validate safety requirements and implement safety systems at new sites.
• Write equipment safety manuals and mentor engineers on safety practices.

Requirements

• B.S. in electrical, mechanical, industrial, process, manufacturing, or another hardware-related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing systems for safety compliance.
• Experience designing and testing functional safety systems to ISO 13849 and/or IEC 61508.
• Experience developing and certifying capital equipment to UL, ANSI, and/or ISO standards with external certification authorities.
• Experience performing risk assessments for complex products and troubleshooting safety systems.
• Strong understanding of human-factors engineering and operator safety.

Nice to have

• Functional and machine safety certifications such as CEFS or CMSE.
• Experience developing custom safety logic or components to ISO 13849 and/or IEC 61508.
• Engineering project management experience.
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and Git.
• Experience or interest in robotics.
