Senior Industrial Controls Engineer, Structured Safety (Robotics)

Location: USA Remote & Travel; up to 50% travel may be required to customer and proof-of-concept sites.

Salary: $149,000–$204,600 base annual pay, varying by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Design, program, maintain, test, and commission Rockwell GuardLogix Safety PLC code for structure- and cell-level safety logic.
• Develop safety logic for emergency-stop networks, door and gate interlocks, light curtains, bot access, and access request workflows.
• Apply functional safety standards and align HARA/SRS requirements with the Functional Safety team.
• Develop Ignition-based safety HMI screens for STS status, alarms, and access controls.
• Support field commissioning, validation, safety protocol sign-off, and root cause analysis at customer and proof-of-concept sites.
• Lead STS projects from design through deployment, create reusable code libraries and standards, conduct design reviews, and coordinate with Functional Safety, SAS/Bot Guardian, and Commissioning teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field.
• At least 8 years of experience as a Controls Engineer with hands-on Rockwell GuardLogix Safety PLC programming experience.
• Deep knowledge of ISO 13849, IEC 62061, SIL/PL, and safety logic for emergency stops, interlocks, and access workflows.
• Field commissioning and validation experience, including safety protocol sign-off and root cause analysis.
• Experience leading controls capital projects.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive and/or fly to customer locations.

Nice to have

• Material handling or distribution center automation experience.
• Ignition 8 or FactoryTalk HMI development experience.
• Experience with Rockwell Integrated Architecture, including ControlLogix, GuardLogix, CompactLogix, Kinetix, and PowerFlex.
• TUV Functional Safety Engineer certification.
• Prior team leadership experience.
