What you will do
- Lead functional safety design and verification initiatives for robotic systems.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and software teams on risk assessments, FMEA, FTA, and SIL determination.
- Define safety requirements, safety functions, performance criteria, and SIL targets for robotic systems, subsystems, and components.
- Design safety architectures incorporating redundancy, fault detection, fault tolerance, and hardware and software safety features.
- Create compliance documentation, safety policies, checklists, SOPs, and customer-site tools for training, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Define and execute safety validation and verification plans and advise on applicable standards and regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
- 10+ years of functional safety experience in robotics, automation, manufacturing, aerospace, or automotive.
- Knowledge of ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO 10218, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, NFPA 79, UL 1740, UL 3100, IEC 60204, IEC 61496, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, and relevant CE directives.
- Experience with Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagrams, electronics systems, PLCs, microcontrollers, or mixed-signal designs.
- Familiarity with safety-rated industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT/FSoE, and MODBUS.
- Ability to work independently, communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and management, and travel domestically and internationally as needed.
Nice to have
- Professional certification in functional safety or compliance, such as CFSE, CMSE, or CECE.
- Familiarity with functional safety components and established and emerging market vendors.
