Engineer, Whole Vehicle Test Requirements and Validation – Body Exterior (Automotive)

Location: Based in Novi, Michigan, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings, company events, and travel to proving grounds, public roads, and extreme climate regions are required.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Own whole-vehicle validation for body exterior systems and attributes, including closures, sealing, water management, wind noise, lighting, and fit-and-finish.
• Define validation strategies for extreme environmental exposure, corrosion, structural durability, high-pressure car washes, hot and cold soaks, heavy precipitation, and high-speed driving.
• Develop vehicle-level test cases, routes, environmental chamber profiles, aerodynamic and vibration scenarios, procedures, and instrumentation plans.
• Lead validation campaigns, vehicle preparation, data collection, and instrumentation using leak detection systems, thermal sensors, strain gauges, pressure sensors, accelerometers, microphones, and data loggers.
• Collaborate with exterior, closures, sealing, lighting, electrical, manufacturing, supplier quality, body structures, and vehicle teams to analyze results and resolve performance gaps.
• Document results, benchmark competitive vehicles, maintain requirements traceability, and provide data-driven recommendations for vehicle release decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, human factors, HCI, software engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 4+ years of experience in whole-vehicle validation, full-performance testing, and vehicle-level verification testing.
• Hands-on experience with CANoe, INCA, and validation instrumentation for capturing, logging, and parsing vehicle network and sensor data.
• Experience defining whole-vehicle test plans, executing physical or vehicle tests, and tracking build and software changes across vehicle fleets.
• Working knowledge of ALM and product tracking tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, MagicDraw, or Codebeamer.
• Understanding of whole-vehicle development phases, automotive safety standards, industry regulations, and cross-functional vehicle target alignment.
