Vehicle Test Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Palo Alto, United States. This is an onsite position requiring office attendance 5 days per week; limited remote work one day per week may become available after ramp-up, subject to business and team needs.

Salary: $190,000–$225,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

• Define and execute vehicle durability and environmental test targets with systems and subsystem engineering teams.
• Plan and execute fleet-based validation, including edge-case extraction, localized product-use testing, and data ingestion.
• Define and implement KPIs for product-use metrics.
• Set up, configure, and operate vehicle integration and measurement equipment.
• Lead vehicle-level testing for software features, performance, functionality, and stability.
• Manage test traceability, defect triage, and homologation test planning.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in systems test engineering, vehicle testing, or vehicle durability testing.
• Experience with instrumentation and data collection, including accelerometers, strain gauges, force transducers, fleet operations, data loggers, and signal conditioning.
• Understanding of systems engineering processes and methods, plus experience testing vibration, shock, thermal cycling, high temperature, humidity, and corrosion.
• Experience with homologation and durability testing; familiarity with JAMA, JIRA, and Confluence.
• Working knowledge of CAN, CAN FD, SPI, and Vector tools; comfortable riding two-wheeled vehicles at various speeds and power levels.
