Service Engineer, Energy Storage

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; travel up to 40%, with occasional weekend, night, and on-call work.

Salary: $150,000–$207,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Serve as the primary technical escalation point for Operations and Maintenance issues beyond standard procedures.
• Define escalation thresholds, handoff criteria, and response expectations between O&M and Service Engineering.
• Lead, mentor, and scale a team providing tier-2 and tier-3 technical support.
• Investigate and resolve complex electrical, controls, software, thermal, and system-integration issues across deployed BESS assets.
• Translate field feedback into actionable requirements for Product, Systems, and R&D Engineering teams.
• Improve system serviceability, reliability, and maintainability through design changes, service documentation, and technical training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of experience supporting complex electromechanical or power-electronics systems, such as BESS, renewable-energy, or industrial systems.
• Deep understanding of BESS architecture, including batteries, PCS/inverters, EMS, thermal management, and protection systems.
• Experience operating in a tiered support model from O&M through Service Engineering to Product Engineering.
• Ability to work safely in environments involving noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, PPE, climbing, standing, and stooping.
