Senior Power Electronics Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role may require occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $134,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate electrical design projects for medium-voltage power electronic converter systems and other electrical designs.
• Design, model, simulate, analyze, and validate power electronics circuits, magnetic components, and control strategies.
• Define components, technical requirements, specifications, test methods, and qualification plans from concept through final testing and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot converter systems and lead initial commissioning activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on fusion power system design, procurement contracts, vendor coordination, and project milestones.
• Document design specifications, simulations, and test results in engineering reports.

Requirements

• 8+ years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or a master's degree with 6+ years of experience in power electronics-based systems.
• Proven experience designing and developing power electronics-based electrical systems, including system design, protection, control, and mechanical integration.
• Knowledge of inverter circuit topologies and their benefits and limitations.
• Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as PLECS, PSPICE, and MATLAB.
• Experience with semiconductor devices including IGBTs and MOSFETs, as well as magnetic components such as transformers and inductors.
• Understanding of gate-drive circuits, device protection, packaging design, and thermal management.
• Experience with high-power electrical equipment above 10MW.
• Hands-on laboratory testing of electrical components, subassemblies, and systems using oscilloscopes and other measurement equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conduct design reviews and present results to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to drive results, influence stakeholders, and support changes in design direction to achieve a high-quality product release.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform extended periods of standing, typing, or sitting.
• Ability to work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in electrical engineering focused on power electronics.
• Practical electrical engineering experience in construction, manufacturing, testing, and field installations.
• Experience applying IEC, UL, CSA, NEC, or other compliance standards.
• Experience with problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and field containment actions.
• Hands-on prototype building, testing, and documentation.
• Experience scaling independent systems to larger systems with higher power requirements.
