Senior Software Engineer (Networking)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, CA; Bellevue, WA; or Sunnyvale, CA, United States

Salary: $170,000–$205,000 per year plus bonus and restricted stock units

What you will do

• Design and develop network state management systems covering provisioning, configuration, topology, routing state, and control plane APIs.
• Scale control plane systems to support increasing network scale, device counts, and infrastructure complexity.
• Design fault-tolerant, distributed control plane infrastructure with high availability and resilience.
• Own initiatives from ideation through development, deployment, and operational impact.
• Partner with product, operations, and engineering teams on build-versus-buy decisions and networking priorities.
• Mentor engineers, participate in code reviews and technical assessments, and promote CI/CD and infrastructure as code practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems in production.
• Proficiency in at least one of Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, including consensus, state reconciliation, fault tolerance, and high availability.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable APIs or services used by multiple teams.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and engineering mentorship skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking software, routing, switching, BGP, SDN, or control plane systems.
• Experience at a cloud provider, hyperscaler, or large-scale data center operator.
• Familiarity with gNMI, gRPC, NETCONF, Kubernetes orchestration, or custom controllers and operators.
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure or networking projects.
