Backend-leaning Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Fully remote, with occasional company-paid travel to Los Angeles for retreats, offsites, and colleague gatherings.

Base salary: $157,250–$230,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own significant backend systems end-to-end, including architecture, design, implementation, and production health.
• Design and operate reliable, scalable backend systems and APIs with strong data modeling.
• Partner with product and design to shape requirements and build user-focused solutions.
• Develop new products from scratch for attorneys and clients in the Representation Pod.
• Mentor engineers, especially on backend patterns and technical practices.
• Contribute across the stack, including frontend interfaces and data systems as needed.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production software, with increasing scope and ownership.
• Meaningful experience at a seed-stage startup or as an early member of a new product team.
• Experience working on high-performing product teams with product managers and designers.
• Strong experience with backend architecture, APIs, reliability, scalability, and data modeling.
• Deep user empathy and strong product judgment.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and helping teammates grow.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker.
• Background in legal, healthcare, or financial services.
• Experience building consumer products or two-sided marketplaces.
• Experience scaling systems, improving developer experience, internal tooling, or team processes.
