TL;DR

Supplier Quality Engineer (Automotive) (APQP/PPAP): Leading supplier qualification, quality planning, production validation, and corrective actions for complex mechanical and electromechanical hardware with an accent on supplier manufacturing maturity, safety-critical component validation, and assembly quality. Focus on managing PPAP deliverables, validating EOL testing and calibration, conducting run-at-rate studies, and preventing recurring supplier failures through 8D-based RCCA.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; on-site. Full-time role with approximately 25–50% travel for supplier audits, process validations, and production ramp-ups.

What you will do

Lead supplier qualification, technical audits, onboarding, and quality activities from sourcing through Start of Production and service-life support.
Partner with Engineering during Design for Manufacturing reviews to optimize mechanical designs for production yield and assembly.
Own supplier and contract manufacturer APQP and PPAP activities, including PFMEAs, process flow diagrams, control plans, and component validation.
Define and validate supplier assembly, testing, integration, End-of-Line testers, calibration requirements, and special characteristics for sensors, compute, and actuation systems.
Support process verification testing and run-at-rate studies to confirm production capacity and quality performance.
Analyze field performance, lead 8D-based RCCA for supplier non-conformances, and improve the supplier-related QMS.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Deep knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, Gage R&R, and SPC, including management of APQP phases and PPAP elements for safety-critical components.
Expertise in 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis, with experience preventing recurrence of complex electromechanical failures.
Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD/CAE tools, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, FEA, PLM tools, and engineering change control.
Experience with manufacturing processes including PCBs/PCBAs, wire harnesses, sheet metal, injection molding, stamping, die casting, and CNC machining.
Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or ISO 26262 and willingness to travel approximately 25–50%.

Nice to have

Automotive, aerospace, autonomous vehicle, or EV industry experience.
Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610.
Certified Quality Engineer or Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification.
