Supplier Quality Engineer - Press Parts (Automotive)

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, United States. The role requires 4–5 days per week in the office, regular in-person meetings, company events, and occasional travel.

Salary: $95,000–$120,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Manage supplier quality for stamped parts, welded assemblies, and structural body components from supplier nomination through start of production and beyond.
• Evaluate potential suppliers and collaborate with procurement and engineering on supplier selection.
• Establish quality metrics and monitor supplier performance through audits, assessments, and inspections.
• Investigate supplier quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop inspection plans, control plans, work instructions, and compliant quality records.
• Lead supplier continuous-improvement initiatives, training, workshops, launches, and cross-functional quality activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 4–8 years of supplier quality experience in the automotive industry, preferably with press parts and structural components.
• Strong knowledge of stamping, welding, structural manufacturing processes, and supplier quality systems.
• Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, VDA standards, and supplier auditing.
• Ability to manage supplier launches, corrective actions, continuous improvement, and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and supply chain.
