Staff Engineer (Backend)

Location: Pleasanton, United States; candidates within a reasonable commute to a hirify.global office must work in the office at least 3 days a week.

Salary: $210,000–$263,000 per year, plus eligible short-term and long-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Design and build extensible, usable, scalable connectors for ERP, banking, payments, tax, and subledger systems.
• Develop, troubleshoot, maintain, optimize, and scale cloud-based backend platform components, services, and frameworks.
• Provide technical leadership across requirements analysis, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and delivery of secure distributed services.
• Lead architecture and technical design discussions, evaluate trade-offs, and drive engineering decisions.
• Establish quality practices through clean, testable, secure code, automation, unit testing, and performance improvements.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, identify system bottlenecks, and support maintenance, releases, and occasional off-hours incidents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience building highly available, web-scale, multi-tenant SaaS backend platforms, frameworks, RESTful APIs, and microservices.
• Expertise in one or more object-oriented languages, including C#, Java, or C++.
• Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, design patterns, concurrency, multithreading, security, and scalable software design.
• Experience leading the design, architecture, and code review of distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Fluency in SQL, NoSQL, data modeling, transactional flows, data integration, and ETL tools, plus strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with continuous delivery, infrastructure as code, public cloud platforms, and cloud-native services.
• Knowledge of internet security, open-source contribution, and platform services such as API gateways, identity management, messaging, workflow orchestration, job scheduling, or search.
• FinTech or financial services experience.
• Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft ERP platforms, particularly general ledger systems.
