R & D Technician (Electric Vehicles)

Location: Daily in-person attendance in Blythewood, South Carolina, United States. Occasional travel and in-person collaboration with Scout colleagues may be required.

Salary: $26.44–$33.65 per hour, plus an additional $0.75 per hour after six months. Full-time, non-exempt position with a 40-hour normal schedule and eligibility for overtime and an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Support prototype, pre-series, development, and production vehicle builds, including assembly, disassembly, rework, fit-and-finish validation, and issue resolution.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, chassis, suspension, energy, and high-voltage vehicle systems using OEM diagnostic and service tools.
• Install, remove, inspect, and rework batteries, electric drive units, inverters, charging components, thermal management systems, and associated wiring.
• Perform high-voltage safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, isolation verification, and safe component handling.
• Conduct root cause analysis, document diagnostics and corrective actions, support ADAS calibration and vehicle instrumentation, and perform validation drives.
• Collaborate with engineering, validation, manufacturing, and test teams while supporting workshop safety, continuous improvement, and onboarding activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of professional experience in automotive assembly, vehicle service, prototype builds, manufacturing, or technical workshop environments.
• Hands-on experience with vehicle mechanical, electrical, chassis, suspension, and/or high-voltage systems.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing vehicles with diagnostic equipment, OEM tools, service information, and technical documentation.
• Ability to read service procedures, assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, alignment specifications, retrofit documentation, and high-voltage safety materials.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate vehicles for functional verification and testing.
