TL;DR
System Engineer, Vehicle Controls (Automotive): Defining, developing, integrating, and validating vehicle control and vehicle state management systems for electric pickups and rugged SUVs with an accent on electrical/electronic architecture, embedded software integration, and mechatronics validation. Focus on owning approximately 15 vehicle control functions, coordinating hardware and software delivery across vehicle development milestones, and applying MBSE/MBD with MIL/SIL/HIL testing to resolve complex system issues.

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office with regular in-person meetings and occasional travel required.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end functional architecture of vehicle control and vehicle state management systems.
  • Define logical and physical electrical and electronic architectures with system engineers and domain experts.
  • Lead the development, integration, validation, and production release of approximately 15 vehicle control functions.
  • Coordinate hardware, embedded software, applications, and cross-functional technical teams through the systems engineering V-cycle.
  • Develop requirements, component and system designs, specifications, test methods, DFMEA, design verification, and product validation deliverables.
  • Apply model-based engineering and simulation methods, including MIL, SIL, and HIL, to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechatronics issues.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or software engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in automotive systems or mechatronics products.
  • Expertise in systems engineering, multidomain physics, complex systems design, and electrical/software integration.
  • Working knowledge of embedded software, wiring systems, and power distribution units.
  • Familiarity with CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS, and vehicle network tools such as CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and drive solutions with extended cross-functional teams.
