Head of Legal (AI)

Location: New York City metropolitan area; in-person, 5 days a week in the office. Candidates must be located in the area or open to relocation.

Salary: $250,000–$325,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and scale the legal, compliance, risk, and governance functions.
• Structure, negotiate, and close bespoke cross-jurisdictional enterprise and government agreements.
• Assess the evolving international regulatory environment for AI systems and anticipate business impact.
• Protect and expand the intellectual property portfolio, including advancing patent strategy.
• Develop legal infrastructure and operations that support growth and reduce friction across departments.
• Support fundraising rounds and manage corporate governance with the founders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience, ideally including leading law firm experience and in-house legal function building.
• Broad experience in at least two of commercial, corporate, compliance, litigation, employment, privacy, or intellectual property law.
• JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent degree.
• Authorized to practice law in New York or eligible to qualify as registered in-house counsel in New York.
• Fluency in AI law and liability, including emerging regulatory frameworks for AI systems at scale.
• Strong commercial judgment, analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to build scalable legal systems.
