TL;DR
Senior System Administrator (Windows/Linux and Data Protection): Managing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting data protection systems and server environments for Department of Veterans Affairs operations with an accent on storage systems, backup and recovery, encryption, and continuity of operations. Focus on preventing data loss, diagnosing complex infrastructure issues, coordinating Tier-4 escalations, and guiding lower-tier administrators.
Location: 100% onsite at the Philadelphia Information Technology Center (PITC), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sunday–Thursday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM EST.

What you will do
- Manage, install, monitor, operate, maintain, administer, troubleshoot, and repair data protection systems and supporting software.
- Support platforms and services that safeguard Department of Veterans Affairs data and ensure continuity of operations.
- Apply data protection strategies, recovery methods, encryption, and storage technologies to prevent data loss, theft, corruption, and breach-related damage.
- Administer Linux and Windows servers and backup and restore applications such as Commvault and Oracle Recovery Manager.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex problems, escalate issues to Tier 4 when necessary, and maintain detailed change management records.
- Guide the activities and training of lower-tier team members with minimal oversight.
Requirements
- Advanced Microsoft Windows operating systems and Windows Server administration skills.
- Advanced administration, maintenance, and repair skills for data protection storage systems such as Cisco Scale Protect, EMC/Dell Data Domain, IBM Tape Libraries, and NetApp Storage.
- Intermediate Linux administration and shell scripting skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or a related technical discipline plus 5+ years of experience, or 13 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
- Ability to pass a Tier 4/High Background Investigation.
- Availability for the onsite Sunday–Thursday schedule in Philadelphia.
