TL;DR
Test Manager, Helium Test Facility (Nuclear Engineering): Leading first-of-a-kind, full-scale validation of XE-100 reactor systems in a high-pressure, high-temperature helium environment with an accent on test rig design, campaign strategy, and cross-functional execution. Focus on designing test plans, managing hardware and facility development, reviewing experimental data, and making high-stakes go/no-go decisions across engineering, vendors, and facility operations.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, with 4 days in the office. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel expectation: 10%.

Salary: $150,000–$187,500 base annually.

What you will do

  • Lead planning and execution of first-of-a-kind, full-scale test campaigns for the XE-100 helium test facility.
  • Drive test rig design decisions, define campaign strategy, and coordinate design engineers, vendors, suppliers, partners, and facility operators.
  • Manage a team responsible for designing and operating testing facilities.
  • Create and implement test plans, estimate resources, procure materials and facilities, and ensure delivery on schedule and within budget.
  • Review test output data and prepare reports based on experimental findings.
  • Make complex engineering recommendations and go/no-go decisions while ensuring compliance with quality assurance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, nuclear engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience after undergraduate study; graduate degrees may count toward the experience requirement.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware development, testing, and experimentation.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of experiments and test planning.
  • Experience working under a formal quality assurance framework such as ISO 9000, ASTM, or NQA-1.
  • Leadership experience on hardware and testing-related projects, including estimating time and resources for engineering activities.

Nice to have

  • Leadership of industrial-scale test campaigns in high-pressure, high-temperature environments, especially helium loops or gas-cooled systems.
  • Cross-disciplinary fluency across mechanical, fluid, electrical, and systems engineering.
  • Experience managing vendors and evaluating complex test hardware or facility deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of ASME and ASTM codes for pressure vessels, piping systems, and structural materials in extreme environments.
