Salary: $145,000–$185,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Develop and own the hardware test and validation strategy for high-temperature superconducting magnets, cryogenic systems, and high-vacuum components.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of test engineers and technicians while establishing rigorous data-integrity and first-principles problem-solving practices.
  • Oversee the design and construction of custom cryogenic and high-power test stands, coordinating test capabilities and resources across projects.
  • Analyze complex test datasets and troubleshoot system-level failure modes with magnet, electrical, controls, manufacturing, mechanical, and physics teams.
  • Manage vendors, procurement contracts, and external design, build, and validation activities for specialized hardware and test facilities.
  • Establish commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and safety procedures for high-voltage, high-field, and cryogenic operations.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of hardware-focused test engineering experience in high-stakes environments such as fusion, aerospace, or superconducting magnets.
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience leading people, hiring teams, and managing the verification and validation lifecycle for integrated systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in LabVIEW and Python, including automation of complex, multi-day cryogenic and electromagnetic tests.
  • Ability to make critical engineering decisions autonomously, translate complex test data into actionable insights, and solve multidisciplinary engineering problems.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and work in an industrial facility involving heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
