Senior Engineer, Systems Design Engineering (Hard Disk Drives)

Location: Onsite at the KL COE Office in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

What you will do

• Understand hard disk drive system design and drive integration, and identify integration-related issues.
• Investigate hard disk drive failures across electromechanical, magnetic recording, firmware, and media-related areas.
• Determine root causes, propose immediate actions, and implement technical solutions while evaluating trade-offs.
• Support product qualification, manufacturing, field operations, drive integration reviews, and technical discussions.
• Analyze electrical, mechanical, and material test results and prepare accurate status updates, test reports, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, failure analysis, reliability, and program engineering teams in factory, laboratory, and NPI environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
• Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply; the role is part of an early-career program with structured onboarding, mentorship, and development.
• Knowledge of semiconductor or device physics, materials science, reliability engineering, PCB, IC packaging, and microelectronics manufacturing processes.
• Experience or familiarity with failure analysis techniques, including oscilloscope probes, multimeters, waveform analysis, and trigger settings.
• Ability to interpret and correlate test data, isolate complex failure mechanisms, and apply root-cause methodologies such as 8D and FMEA.
• Programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, and TCL, with productivity tools such as MS Office.

Nice to have

• Ability to read basic schematics and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment.
• Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, or MATLAB.
