Group Leader – Mission Software Architectures & Applications II (Embedded Systems)

Salary: $82,300–$220,000 base salary per year

What you will do

• Lead and manage a group of approximately 10–20 engineers focused on mission software architectures, applications, and embedded systems.
• Shape the group’s workforce, technical capabilities, technology offerings, and strategic technology roadmaps.
• Collaborate with program offices, customers, sponsors, engineering groups, subject matter experts, and the external technical community.
• Direct internal and external R&D activities, research proposals, university collaborations, and scholar, cooperative, and internship programs.
• Manage staffing needs, write job requisitions, review resumes, conduct interviews, and perform performance evaluations.
• Support employee development through mentoring, leadership opportunities, training, check-ins, and career reviews.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or equivalent degree in engineering or a technically relevant field.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience with advanced technologies and effective formal or informal leadership; the posting also references 5–7 years of experience in engineering, complex systems design, development, and management.
• Technical expertise in maturing new embedded systems technologies and applying them to advanced, first-of-a-kind systems.
• Experience leading medium or large teams through the full lifecycle of embedded software development, preferably in mission-critical or safety-critical systems.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, collaboration, innovation, team-building, conflict-resolution, employee-development, and mentoring skills.
• Applicants selected for the position must obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with guidance, navigation, and control technologies for complex systems.
• Technical leadership as a Technical Director, Task Leader, or Principal Investigator.
• Experience with Earned Value Management, cost and schedule management, and technical or cost proposals.
• Experience as a line manager of a technical organization and interest in emerging technology and market trends.
• Existing US Government Security Clearance.
