Senior Backend Software Engineer (HealthTech)

Location: New York, United States; NYC-based candidates are strongly preferred to work in the office at least 2 days per week.

What you will do

• Architect robust and stable backend software supporting essential healthcare services for thousands of patients.
• Deliver backend infrastructure work consistently across sprints and projects.
• Own specifications and tickets independently, extending the capacity of the Head of Engineering.
• Collaborate with clinicians, operations experts, and care providers to solve product and process gaps.
• Clarify business logic and ensure implementation supports the underlying healthcare use cases.
• Balance delivery speed and software quality while focusing on tangible results.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building complex backend services for mobile, web, and data products.
• 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
• Experience shipping large-scale web services and understanding of fundamental software engineering and computer science concepts.
• Proficiency in at least one server-side language or framework, including Ruby on Rails, PHP, or JavaScript.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and organize work independently.
• Ability or willingness to work from the New York area with regular office attendance is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Health tech or early-stage startup experience.
• GraphQL and REST web services.
• Real-time data streaming and AWS.
