Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA; R&D roles require two days per week in the San Francisco office.

What you will do

• Design and evolve workflow automation systems running across serverless and containerized environments and processing millions of tasks monthly.
• Implement scheduling, queuing, rate limiting, retries, state tracking, error handling, timeouts, and cleanup for distributed tasks.
• Build integrations with SFTP, email, databases, spreadsheets, and REST APIs, including credential management and failure recovery.
• Develop high-volume file processing pipelines for PDF, Excel, CSV, and JSON data, as well as webhook handlers, polling services, and event-driven workflows.
• Work with healthcare data formats including HL7, X12, and EDI, and collaborate with ML/AI teams on training and inference pipelines.
• Own backend projects from design through deployment, improve reliability and maintainability, mentor junior engineers, and participate in incident response and postmortems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with distributed systems, workflow orchestration, automated systems, and event-driven pipelines at scale.
• Strong database expertise, including SQL, schema design, and performance optimization.
• Experience with large-scale data pipelines and production systems.
• Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and collaborate effectively with engineering, DevOps, ML, and UX teams.
