TL;DR

What you will do

  • Implement the facility’s Radiation Protection program across operations, startup, and radiological work planning activities.
  • Perform smear, direct frisk, airborne radioactivity, and routine operational surveys using radiation protection instruments.
  • Conduct radiological surveys for cylinder receipt, storage, inspection, maintenance, sampling, and movement.
  • Maintain survey maps, logs, turnover notes, deficiency reports, contamination controls, postings, and radiological boundaries.
  • Respond to alarms, spills, contamination events, material-handling abnormalities, and personnel incidents through surveys, boundary control, and event documentation.
  • Support ALARA reviews, pre-job briefings, work package reviews, radiological hold points, SOP development, training materials, and daily job safety oversight.

Requirements

  • Qualification through a documented Radiation Protection Technician training and qualification program, including classroom, task-specific, and supervised on-the-job training.
  • Familiarity with portable radiation survey instrumentation, source checks, response checks, use limitations, calibration, and traceability expectations.
  • Ability to qualify for respiratory protection duties, including medical clearance, training, and fit testing for tight-fitting respirators as applicable.
  • Ability to complete hazardous materials transportation training relevant to assigned shipping, receiving, inspection, or pre-transport functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, collaboration, prioritization, and initiative skills.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.

Nice to have

  • Experience in fuel-cycle facilities, DOE sites, commercial nuclear operations, uranium handling, or industrial radiological control.
  • Experience creating survey maps, logs, turnover notes, and deficiency reports.
  • Experience supporting procedure development and feedback processes.
  • Experience providing daily job safety oversight in radiological environments.
