What you will do

  • Design and optimize control algorithms for high-power battery energy storage systems, including grid-forming, grid-following, and multi-asset synchronization.
  • Develop bidirectional DC/DC and AC/DC control schemes for industrial-scale energy storage, optimizing efficiency, thermal stability, and safety.
  • Build high-fidelity digital twins of power stages and grid environments with PLECS and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Lead hardware-in-the-loop testing environments using Opal-RT and Typhoon to validate control firmware under transient and fault conditions.
  • Implement control strategies for mixed-asset battery arrays, including recycled battery chemistries.
  • Collaborate with electrical, firmware, thermal, battery, and systems engineers on the roadmap for energy storage site controllers.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Electronics Control Systems; an MSc requires 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep expertise in high-efficiency power conversion, including LLC, CLLC, DAB, Flying Capacitor, and ANPC topologies.
  • Experience designing robust closed-loop controllers using Bode, Nyquist, and state-space methods.
  • Experience implementing controllers on DSPs or microcontrollers and strong proficiency in C for real-time embedded systems.
  • Expert-level MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS skills, plus Python for automation, scripting, and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with grid-interconnection standards such as IEEE 1547 and UL 1741 is highly desirable.
