Salary: $150,000–$255,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

What you will do

  • Own battery system architecture, analytical foundations, and trade studies across chemistry, pack topology, cell selection, state-of-charge windows, and operating limits.
  • Build electrical, thermal, and degradation models at cell and pack level using real-world duty cycles and mission profiles.
  • Define charging strategy, operational use cases, degradation management, user-facing battery behavior, and end-of-life operating strategy.
  • Lead cell evaluation and down-selection, characterization plans, and translation of cell behavior into pack models and BMS operating envelopes.
  • Define system requirements covering protection thresholds, thermal limits, charge and discharge constraints, contactors, fuses, fault detection, and end-of-life criteria.
  • Support bench and vehicle bring-up, test-case definition, and model-to-measurement correlation across electrical, thermal, and degradation domains.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of battery systems engineering experience with ownership of battery architecture and requirements on a shipped product.
  • Deep knowledge of lithium-ion cell behavior, electrochemical principles, thermal characteristics, degradation mechanisms, duty cycles, and pack design constraints.
  • Hands-on experience building equivalent-circuit, thermal-network, degradation, and pack-level simulations from scratch using Python, MATLAB, and Simulink.
  • Experience developing or validating EV or electrified powertrain duty cycles and translating mission profiles into battery requirements and operating limits.
  • Ability to translate cell and pack behavior into BMS hardware and firmware requirements and collaborate with embedded, controls, and BMS teams.
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Cell characterization experience, including HPPC, OCV curves, and degradation cycling.
  • Familiarity with SOC, SOH, and SOE state-estimation algorithms and their controls interfaces.
  • Experience with Ansys Mechanical, Fluent, Icepak, or equivalent simulation tools, and fast-charge protocol development.
  • Background in small EVs, two-wheelers, or light electric mobility platforms.
  • Experience with requirements management tools and framing engineering tradeoffs around cost, program risk, and product impact.
