System Mechanical Design Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; flexible hybrid workplace model.

Salary: $139,000–$190,000 USD annually, plus equity grants and other rewards.

What you will do

• Design, test, analyze, integrate, qualify, and document moderately to highly complex hardware.
• Develop chassis and rack platforms, including CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
• Package optical and electrical components for thermal performance and mechanical reliability.
• Lead design reviews, manage feedback and change requests, and drive requirements and timeline gaps to closure.
• Build and integrate prototypes in-house, then lead external contract manufacturers through build-to-print and high-volume production.
• Coordinate root-cause investigations, supply-chain lead-time mitigation, technical roadmaps, and cross-functional engineering dependencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of system mechanical design experience with multiple successful product releases.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD solid modeling software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience with thermal and structural testing and analysis; ANSYS experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, strength of materials, materials selection, vibration environments, and electronics packaging.
• Strong communication skills and an adaptive, hands-on execution style.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with 3D printing equipment and processes.
• Proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS or SolidWorks.
• Experience with thermal simulation tools such as IcePak or FloTHERM.
