TL;DR
Sr. RF Electrical Engineer (Aerospace) (RF communications): Designing, integrating, testing, and operating wireless communication systems and components for interplanetary and lunar rover missions with an accent on RF architecture, component performance, and mission-critical reliability. Focus on developing RF test beds, performing end-to-end vehicle and ground-station integration testing, and supporting reliable communication links during mission operations.

Location: Hybrid role based in the Hawthorne, California office

Salary: $169,000–$187,000 per year

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates multipurpose planetary rovers to support exploration and operations on distant planetary bodies.

What you will do

  • Own wireless communications systems and RF components from architecture and component selection through integration, testing, and operations.
  • Develop interface and functional requirements and specifications in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Select, procure, and test RF components for interplanetary systems, including qualification and environmental testing.
  • Analyze RF component performance, including EVM, gain and stability, and noise figure, while supporting power and thermal system design.
  • Build communications integration test beds and conduct vehicle and ground-station end-to-end integration testing.
  • Develop test procedures, lead design reviews, and support mission operations to maintain reliable communications links.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in RF communications system design and component-level engineering.
  • Experience with transceivers, amplifiers, filters, and antennas.
  • Knowledge of digital communications fundamentals, including modulation schemes, spread spectrum, and forward error correction.
  • Experience using RF test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and power meters.

Nice to have

  • Experience with RF simulation tools such as HFSS, ADS, FEKO, or similar software.
  • Experience designing hardware for high-reliability aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical applications.
  • Knowledge of environmental testing, thermal chambers, and environmental test standards such as SMC-S-016.
