TL;DR
Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics (Aerospace): Developing electrical power architectures, power electronics, flight hardware, and ground support systems for supersonic and hypersonic aircraft with an accent on high-voltage systems, avionics integration, and rapid hardware testing. Focus on designing high-power components, integrating COTS and custom hardware, troubleshooting complex aircraft power systems, and establishing engineering standards.

Location: Los Angeles, CA; on-site. The role is subject to U.S. export control compliance requirements; candidates must be U.S. persons or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

What you will do

  • Own electrical power architectures and components from concept through implementation, integration, and testing.
  • Design power electronics, flight hardware, ground support equipment, and test systems for supersonic and hypersonic aircraft.
  • Architect integrated vehicle power systems with mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate commercial off-the-shelf and custom hardware while coordinating with vendors and suppliers.
  • Assemble, integrate, troubleshoot, and test hardware through rapid prototyping and iterative build/test cycles.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, tools, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering with significant electrical component and systems development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in areas such as battery design, motor controller design, harness design, EMI mitigation, power conditioning, communication buses, bus converters, or PCB layout.
  • Experience with high-voltage DC systems and components, including batteries, motors, generators, and applicable safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems engineering practices, requirements development, verification and validation, qualification and acceptance testing, risk management, and certification campaigns.
  • Experience designing high-power electronic components or distributed systems above 5 kW, with strong analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with avionics devices, CAN bus, RS-422, ARINC 825, aerospace connectors, and cross-domain mechanical/electrical collaboration.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency with Python, Capital Harness, Siemens NX/Teamcenter, Altium Designer, Simulink, or ANSYS.
  • Familiarity with IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, and DO-160G.
