Principal Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Avionics)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $200,000–$260,000 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Architect and design flight-critical avionics hardware for satellite buses, reentry vehicles, and customer payloads.
• Develop PCB electronics across the full lifecycle, including schematics, layout, validation, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing tests.
• Translate mission and company objectives into subsystem requirements, designs, and development milestones.
• Own product acceptance and qualification testing for thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI environments.
• Collaborate with flight software, thermal, GNC, structures, pharmaceutical, mission operations, and integration teams.
• Perform root-cause analysis of test failures, define risk mitigations, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of direct electronics hardware design experience, including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and environmental qualification.
• Experience taking complex electronics systems from design through launch or deployment.
• Knowledge of signal integrity, power and grounding, analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuits, load switches, and switch-mode DC:DC converters.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multimeters, and power supplies.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, or another scripting and data analysis language, plus communication protocols such as SPI, RS422, and 1000BASE-T.

Nice to have

• Advanced electronic circuit design and analysis skills.
• Knowledge of physics, mathematics, and chemistry fundamentals relevant to electronics in demanding environments.
• Experience with aerospace sensors and actuators, including RTDs, pressure transducers, motors, valves, thermocouples, and encoders.
