Engineer V, Civil Structural (Nuclear Plant)

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 5 days in office. Remote eligibility is mentioned, but the stated work-site expectation requires regular office presence. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel is up to 40%.

Salary: $130,050–$216,750 per year.

What you will do

• Develop the plant site layout and design buildings and civil and structural systems through final design and construction.
• Perform, manage, and oversee engineering and construction activities across the project lifecycle.
• Design and assess structures for seismic, flood, and wind hazards using applicable codes, standards, and engineering principles.
• Define, manage, and verify requirements for safety, constructability, reliability, maintainability, testability, and other lifecycle properties.
• Develop risk-informed, performance-based design criteria and support PRA, FMEA, and HAZOP assessments.
• Coordinate with engineers, suppliers, construction contractors, and project stakeholders on interfaces, constructability, modularization, cost, and schedule.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, architectural engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Typically 15 years of engineering experience; a master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
• Experience analyzing, designing, evaluating, or constructing civil structures, including industrial structures, buildings, power generation facilities, or infrastructure.
• Knowledge of mechanics, materials, construction techniques, engineering codes and standards, environmental and economic impacts, and professional ethics.
• Experience in at least one area such as site development, grading, roadways, stormwater, hydrology, soil mechanics, steel or concrete structures, architectural systems, CAD/BIM, or structural analysis.
• Experience with hand calculations and/or finite element analysis software such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, ABAQUS, ADINA, or OpenSees.
