Senior Civil Engineer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Torrance, California, in the Los Angeles area; ability to travel up to 30% to customer, manufacturing, testing, and deployment locations. Work may involve DOE, Department of Defense, Department of the Army, and commercial nuclear facilities.

Salary: $140,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity.

hirify.global is a Series B startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, defense, commercial, and space applications.

What you will do

• Lead civil engineering activities for deployment of the hirify.global R1 microreactor.
• Evaluate sites for geotechnical conditions, grading, drainage, utilities, transportation access, constructibility, environmental constraints, and permitting.
• Develop repeatable site layouts, grading and drainage systems, stormwater management, access roads, equipment pads, underground utilities, and related civil infrastructure.
• Coordinate foundations, reinforced concrete structures, retaining walls, below-grade facilities, and subsurface investigations with structural and geotechnical engineers.
• Support transportation planning, heavy-haul logistics, crane studies, equipment installation, construction sequencing, permitting, commissioning, and startup.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, drawings, cost estimates, construction packages, engineering standards, and deployment best practices while coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, licensing, construction, customers, contractors, and regulators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of civil engineering experience on industrial, power generation, energy, defense, or large infrastructure projects.
• Experience with site development, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadway design, civil infrastructure, engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects and knowledge of applicable civil engineering codes and industry standards.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
• Applicants must meet U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license or a master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with nuclear facilities, military installations, industrial plants, energy infrastructure, geotechnical engineering, foundation design, permitting, or environmental compliance.
• Experience with EPC contractors, oversized-equipment transportation, modular facility design, regulated industries, or DOE, NRC, Department of War, or Department of the Army requirements.
