TL;DR
Senior Engineer - Electrical (Quantum Technology): Developing complex electronic solutions and full-lifecycle PCB assemblies for quantum instruments with an accent on mixed-signal, RF, high-speed digital, and precision analog design. Focus on signal and power integrity, controlled-impedance layouts, power management, manufacturing readiness, and hands-on hardware debugging.

Location: Onsite in Pleasanton, California, United States. Travel up to 5%.

Base salary: $142,113–$186,063 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Translate system requirements into schematic designs with physicists and mechanical and optical engineers.
  • Lead the full PCBA lifecycle for high-speed digital, precision analog, mixed-signal, and RF boards.
  • Define PCB layout standards, stack-ups, impedance profiles, and EMI/EMC-aware design strategies.
  • Optimize component selection and routing for signal integrity, power integrity, thermal efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Design point-of-load power circuits and support DFM/DFA, manufacturing, testing, and engineering change processes.
  • Debug and verify hardware hands-on using oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, spectrum analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of professional experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing complex mixed-signal PCB assemblies with advanced ECAD tools.
  • Experience with high-density layouts, HDI, fine-pitch BGAs, and controlled-impedance microstrip or stripline structures.
  • Experience designing with modern FPGAs, MCUs, and precision analog circuits.
  • Hands-on proficiency with oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, and spectrum analyzers, plus strong written and verbal communication.
  • Due to U.S. export-control requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful U.S. permanent residents, or qualifying refugees or asylees, unless the required authorization or license exception is confirmed.

Nice to have

  • Advanced Altium Designer experience, including schematic capture, library management, and constraint-driven layouts.
  • Experience integrating PCB designs with PLM or ERP systems and managing component lifecycles.
  • Experience defining, simulating, and verifying ASIC designs.
  • Knowledge of low-power design and RoHS/CE, EMI/EMC, and UL compliance standards.
