TL;DR
Machinist III (CNC machining/manufacturing): Setting up, programming, and operating multi-axis lathes, mills, boring machines, and grinders to produce precision metallic and nonmetallic components with an accent on tight tolerances, GD&T, and in-process quality control. Focus on creating and editing Mastercam NC programs, planning workholding and tooling, and maintaining traceable manufacturing documentation for demanding nuclear-energy hardware.

Location: Onsite in Richmond, California or Alameda, California. Occasional overtime, weekend work, schedule flexibility, second-shift work beginning at 4:30 p.m., and extended hours may be required.

Salary: $46–$52 per hour.

What you will do

  • Plan machining operations from blueprints and job orders, including dimensions, tolerances, tooling, feeds, speeds, and operation sequences.
  • Set up and operate multi-axis lathes, milling machines, boring machines, grinders, and other production equipment.
  • Create workholding methods, establish work coordinate systems, and set tooling offsets.
  • Create and edit NC programs for CNC machines using CAM software such as Mastercam.
  • Perform in-process inspections, adjust setups, and verify conformance using precision measurement tools.
  • Maintain production schedules, job travelers, and first article inspection reports for quality and traceability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 5+ years of relevant machining experience, including mill, lathe, 3-axis, 5-axis, and live-tooling work, or equivalent education and hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software, G-code, CNC cutting-tool selection, surface footage, chip-load feed rates, and GD&T.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, height gages, gauge pins, gauge blocks, and thread gauges.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, solve problems efficiently, prioritize safety, and use production, timekeeping, training, and work-order systems.
  • Ability to obtain forklift and boom-lift certification and comply with DOE Part 810 export-control access requirements.
