CNC Programmer (Mill, Lathe & Swiss)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States. The role requires on-site work with machining equipment, including standing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs, as well as working required shifts, overtime, and weekends when needed.

Salary: $40.00–$70.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Develop, prove out, simulate, and optimize CNC programs for 5-axis machining centers, CNC lathes, and Swiss-type lathes with live tooling, driven tooling, and sub-spindle operations.
• Translate engineering models, drawings, and GD&T requirements into machining processes, including tooling, fixturing, cutting strategies, and machining sequences.
• Maintain CAM programs, post-processors, tool libraries, setup sheets, work instructions, and other traceability documentation.
• Lead first-article runs and process prove-out while reducing cycle time, scrap, and tool consumption without compromising tolerances or surface finish.
• Partner with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering on feasibility, inspection planning, FAI, and AS9102 requirements.
• Support equipment commissioning, capability studies, prototype-to-production transitions, and mentorship of machinists and operators.

Requirements

• 5+ years of CNC programming experience, including hands-on 5-axis milling and Swiss-type lathe programming with live tooling.
• Proficiency with Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, or Fusion 360, including multi-axis and mill-turn modules.
• Strong knowledge of G-code, M-code, Fanuc, Siemens, Citizen, Star, or Tsugami controls, and post-processor behavior.
• Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T.
• Experience machining precision components from stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and/or high-temperature alloys.
• Knowledge of work-holding, fixturing, tooling selection, feeds and speeds optimization, and documented quality environments with full part traceability.

Nice to have

• Experience with NQA-1, AS9100, or ISO 9001 environments, especially nuclear, aerospace, or defense manufacturing.
• Mill-turn, macro or parametric programming, CMM and FAI processes, MES/ERP shop-floor systems, or digital process documentation experience.
• Lean manufacturing or continuous-improvement experience, including SMED, cycle-time reduction, or scrap reduction.
• Journeyman machinist background or a formal machining/CNC technical credential.
