TL;DR
RPS Service Engineer (3D Printing): Installing, repairing, upgrading, and maintaining metal 3D printers and supporting equipment for an internal rapid production shop with an accent on machine availability, troubleshooting, and field service. Focus on diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical subsystems, performing calibration and preventive maintenance, and resolving complex equipment failures under production pressure.

Location: Fremont, California, United States; on-site. Primarily based at the Lakeview site with up to 20% travel to other locations or field sites.

Salary: $105,000–$140,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Install, test, operate, maintain, repair, upgrade, and commission 3D printers and related equipment.
  • Assemble and test mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical subassemblies while developing mastery in at least one area.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and minimize production downtime.
  • Perform equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, parts replacement, and on-call support.
  • Provide technical training and instructions to customers, coworkers, and contract manufacturers.
  • Document service activity, metrics, equipment performance, customer satisfaction, processes, and improvement recommendations.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in an applicable field such as engineering or computer science.
  • At least 5 years of experience operating and maintaining complex machines in laboratory or manufacturing environments, in customer-facing field service, and in hands-on equipment repair and calibration.
  • Technical aptitude in electrical, mechanical, optical, software, or related disciplines, with the ability to troubleshoot independently and escalate appropriately.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to rent vehicles with a personal credit card, and willingness to travel for extended periods.
  • Experience following safety standards such as OSHA and LOTO; ability to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be authorized to work in government and medical facilities and pass background checks. Steel-toed boots, protective eyewear, and task-specific respiratory and hearing protection are required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field.
  • Startup experience or military service.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment or 3D additive manufacturing markets.
  • Current or past security clearances, CPR, AED, fire extinguisher, or emergency response team experience.
